The Senior Voice Forum, facilitated by Age Concern Halton & St Helens, was established for the benefit and welfare of all people aged 50 and above who live in the St Helens area.
The present committee consists of 11 individuals from diverse backgrounds who were voted into place in 2007 and are eligible for re-election in 2010. The Senior Voice Forum has over 2,000 older people in its membership.
The primary aim of St Helens Senior Voice is to be a voice for older people, developing useful links with all decision making agencies and participating in that decision making.
Working in partnership with other agencies, the Forum’s aim is to eradicate ageism and age discriminatory practices, and Committee members show through their commitment and drive that older people have experience, knowledge and skills which can be of use to the community as a whole.
Whilst every effort is made to assist anyone who raises an issue with them, the committee have set themselves priority areas on which to concentrate (i.e. Transport, Health, Housing and Safety).
The action plan 2007 - 2010 will address the following issues.
Transport
Transport to health - we aim to persuade travel groups such as Arriva the importance of accessing health services, hospital/home visiting times etc.
Work with Whiston Hospital on better parking access - Bus Service to be central.
Health
Work with hospital staff to find out / improve people's stay in hospital and access to home.
Work with NHS on increased access i.e Saturday morning surgeries.
Housing
Raise awareness on improving housing for people with dementia.
Other
